Changed my mind about growing tomatoes in self-watering pots after a trip to my neighbor's balcony in Denver

I saw her cherry tomatoes were huge and perfect while mine were splitting and sad, and she told me the steady moisture from the reservoir stops the cracking, so I'm switching all my pots this weekend... has anyone else had better luck with self-watering over regular pots?

I hear you on the steady moisture helping with cracking, but I've had the opposite luck with self-watering pots. The roots stayed too wet for my plants and they ended up with root rot instead of big tomatoes.

Oh man, same thing happened to me! I switched to self-watering pots last summer and my Better Boy tomatoes turned into a mushy mess. The roots just sat in water and rotted out. I thought I was helping but I ended up losing half my plants. I'm going back to regular pots with a strict watering schedule instead.
