The butter softening trick I've been seeing totally wrong for years
I kept seeing people post about microwaving butter for 10 seconds to soften it for cookies but mine always came out half melted. Turns out I was using full power instead of 30% and now my chocolate chip cookies actually come out flat instead of puffy blobs. Anybody else deal with weird microwave settings messing up their bake?

Wait you're telling me microwaves have different power levels you can actually set?

grantl94, I feel your pain on that one. I did the exact same thing for years - thought the power level thing was just for defrosting meat or something. My cookies were either soup or hockey pucks until I figured out the 50% trick.
