That $40 silicone baking mat I ignored for years finally made me see the light

I spent way too long fighting with parchment paper that curls up and slides around on the pan. I finally bought a silicone baking mat two years ago at a kitchen supply store in Denver, and it was $40. It saved me from burning my fingers trying to hold down the corners of the paper. My cookies come out even every time now, no more scorched bottoms on the edges. I wish I had got one back when I started baking ten years ago, but I thought they were just a gimmick. Now my baking win is that I don't waste money on parchment rolls anymore. Has anyone else had a cheap tool turn into a must-have over time?

Oh man, I got one of those silicone mats and my dog ate it three days later. Thought he was done for, but he just passed it like a weird colorful pancake.
