Rant: My stand mixer died mid-batch at 11pm on a Tuesday

I was making a double batch of chocolate chip cookies for a work thing the next day. Got to the last cup of flour and the motor just gave up. Loud grinding noise, then smoke. Tried to finish by hand but the dough was way too stiff. Threw the whole thing out and ordered pizza. Now I gotta tell my coworker tomorrow there's no cookies. Anyone else have kitchen gear die at the worst possible time?

Think you could've saved it with a hand knead before tossing everything out.

Tossed a batch of cookie dough myself last year when my hand mixer died halfway through. Always figured I could just power through by hand but that dough was like concrete. Watched it hit the trashcan and felt awful. Now I keep a backup whisk and a stiff arm just in case. Never trusting gadgets again the way I used to.
