Overheard my neighbor say sourdough starter is basically just moldy flour water

I was watering my plants and heard my neighbor tell her friend that my sourdough starter is just "moldy flour water" and I got so mad I nearly dropped my hose. She said it in that tone like it's some gross science experiment but I have kept that starter alive for 8 months and made 20 perfect loaves with it. Has anyone else had non-bakers totally trash talk their starter like it's not a big deal?

Have you tried just offering her a slice of your best bread? In my experience that usually shuts people up real quick. Your mileage may vary but I've won over a few skeptics with a warm piece fresh out of the oven.

Yeah that "offer them a slice" advice is good but honestly some people just won't listen. @abby_scott is right though, warm bread is hard to argue with. I've had people call my starter a "science experiment" too and I just laugh and say well yeah, that's kind of the point.
