Overheard a lady at the grocery store say she bakes her banana bread at 350 for 90 minutes, no matter what. Is that normal?

Honestly, that kind of rigid rule drives me a little nuts. It reminds me of people who refuse to use GPS and insist their handwritten directions from 1998 are still perfect. Like @john430 said, you gotta check with a toothpick. Ovens are all different, and so is how ripe your bananas are. Blindly baking for 90 minutes is a sure way to waste good ingredients on a doorstop. Some folks just get a method stuck in their head and never question it, even when the evidence is a dry, overbaked mess.

That's way too long for most recipes. It would turn into a dry brick. My go-to is about 55 minutes, maybe an hour if the loaf is huge. She must be using a really low oven or something. Honestly, just check it with a toothpick.
