My sourdough starter is older than my nephew now...
I just checked my notes and my starter, 'Bubbles', is exactly 1,825 days old, which is five years to the day. I honestly never thought I'd keep a jar of flour and water alive longer than a houseplant... it's outlasted three apartments. Has anyone else hit a weirdly specific baking milestone that made you laugh?

A buddy of mine realized his starter was the same age as his car loan. He named it 'Interest' and joked about which one was a better investment. The starter survived a cross-country move in a cooler, while the car needed a new transmission. He still bakes with it every week.

My starter's older than my last three cars, honestly.

That line about the starter outliving the car's transmission is way too real. I had a buddy named Josh who used the same sourdough starter for like seven years, he called it "Ol' Reliable" and it went with him through two apartment moves and a break up where his girlfriend kept the good mixer. The starter somehow survived a week in a box in his trunk during a heatwave, just needed a little feed and it perked right back up. Meanwhile his fancy KitchenAid blew a gear the next month, so yeah, the little science project definitely came out ahead.
