My grandma's lemon meringue pie took me 3 years to get right.

Last week I finally pulled a perfect pie out of the oven after trying her recipe on and off since 2021. The first attempt 3 years ago was a soupy mess with a crust that looked like a map of Texas. Anybody else spend way too long trying to match a family recipe?

Honestly, "looked like a map of Texas" got me laughing. My best friend spent a full year trying to nail her grandma's cookie recipe, and every single batch came out flat and sad. She finally realized her grandma was using a weird off-brand baking powder that doesn't even exist anymore, so she had to just guess the measurements. She still fails about half the time, but she says the flat ones taste the most like her grandma's.

Wait isn't it on the other side of the cookie that actually matters for rising?
