Just realized my oven thermometer was off by 40 degrees after a bake sale disaster in Reno
I brought 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies to a bake sale at my niece's school in Reno last Saturday and every single one came out flat and pale. A lady running the booth next to me pulled out her own thermometer and showed me mine was reading 40 degrees hotter than the actual temp. Turns out I had been baking everything too low for months without knowing it. Anyone else had a thermometer lie to them like that, and did you just grab a new one or start testing with boiling water?
