My friend said 'The Room' is just sad, not fun bad, and I had to disagree

We were at his apartment in Denver, eating pizza and getting ready for a bad movie night. He put on 'The Room' and after twenty minutes said, 'This isn't funny, it's just a sad guy wasting his money.' I told him you have to see the SINCERITY in the badness, like Tommy Wiseau really thought this was a deep drama. The awful green screen and that 'you are tearing me apart' line make it a classic. Has anyone else had to defend a famously bad movie's fun factor?

Tell him to watch it with a crowd next time.

Honestly, what kind of crowd are you even picturing?

Yeah, my buddy had the same issue until he saw it at a midnight screening. The whole crowd yelling at the screen and throwing spoons totally flipped it for him, like what @laurabennett said about the right crowd. It's a group sport, not a solo watch.
