Maybe it's just me but I had a buddy who did that with the movie "The Room" - tried to explain how it was a genius commentary on betrayal and friendship. What worked was just nodding along and then changing the subject to pizza toppings halfway through. He eventually dropped it when he realized no one was taking the bait.
