Looking for movies with truly baffling special effects
Our group got a lot of mileage out of 'The Giant Claw' from 1957, specifically the scene where the monster is clearly a puppet on a string. The problem is we've burned through most of the obvious ones like 'Plan 9 from Outer Space.' What's a movie where the effects are so cheap they wrap back around to being charming?
My buddy swears by "The Killer Shrews" from 1959. He described a scene where dogs in bad costumes run at the camera, and the actors have to pretend they're giant rodents. The whole thing looks like someone's backyard project gone wrong.
That "backyard project gone wrong" feel is something I see all the time now. People will sell handmade stuff online with super blurry photos and a crazy high price, acting like it's top-tier professional work. It's the same kind of charming, but totally obvious, lack of self-awareness.
