Hot take: Watching 'The Room' at a dive bar totally changed how I see bad movies
I went to this dingy place called The Roxy in Austin last Friday for their monthly bad movie showing. At first I was just there for the cheap drinks and laughing at how awful the acting was. But when everyone started throwing spoons at the screen during the flower shop scene, I realized the whole experience is about the crowd going along with the nonsense. Has anyone else had a bad movie night turn into something way more fun because of the people around you?

The spoon throwing part got me. First time I went to one of these, I showed up with a whole bag of plastic cutlery like some kind of amateur. The regulars had metal spoons they brought from home. Learned my lesson real fast, now I have a designated bad movie spoon in my glove compartment right next to the emergency granola bar.

Started going to these bad movie nights about six months ago and it honestly changed how I look at other stuff too. Like now when I go to a boring work meeting, I just imagine everyone throwing spoons at the screen and suddenly it's not so bad. Even waiting in line at the DMV feels different, I started noticing other people's little jokes and grins and it makes the whole thing bearable. Realized most things are better when you just go along with the nonsense together instead of fighting it.
