Got roasted in a bad movie group for picking The Room as 'best worst'
I used to just default to The Room for every bad movie recommendation but a guy named Dave in the Austin Bad Movie Night meetup tore into me for being basic. Said there's a whole goldmine of 80s SOV horror that's way more fun like Things (1989) or the OG Samurai Cop. Now I rotate picks from that era and the group actually gives a damn about what I suggest. Anyone else get put in their place about a go-to bad movie pick?

Honest question though, is it really that deep? I get that The Room is the obvious pick but it's popular for a reason. People have fun with it. If Dave wants to gatekeep bad movie night then let him curate his own thing. I'll take Tommy Wiseau any day over some grainy SOV tape nobody's heard of.

Wait, @blair_green86 are you telling me you'd rather watch Tommy Wiseau chuck a football around a rooftop for ten minutes than sit through a VHS tape where the audio cuts out for half the movie and the monster is just a guy in a hairy coat? I used to defend The Room like it was my actual job, but after Dave made me watch Things I realized I was just recommending the bad movie equivalent of a Starbucks basic order instead of digging into the weird dumpster fire stuff. Nothing builds character like trying to explain the plot of a movie where half the scenes are just a guy yelling at a fly on the wall.
