Debate time: is The Room actually bad or just so weird it works?

I was at my buddy's garage last weekend talking about bad movies, and he dropped a hot take on me. He said The Room isnt really that bad, its just so awkward and misdirected that people confuse it for being entertaining. That hit me different because I always thought it was the king of so-bad-its-good flicks. But then he pointed out how its painful to watch for more than 20 minutes, unlike something like Troll 2 which has that campy charm throughout. Now I'm torn. On one hand, The Room has those classic lines and scenes that make it a staple. On the other hand, half the time I'm just cringing or bored. What do you all think? Is it genuinely fun bad, or is it just a slog people pretend to love for the meme? Has anyone else felt this split? I need opinions cause my buddy's got me questioning everything.

Skip the first 20 minutes. Start right at the football scene instead and you'll see the magic.

...but isnt that the whole point though? The Room is bad because its not even fun to sit through, those first 20 minutes are a drag without the drinking game aspect. Its like people gotta trick themselves into enjoying it by making it a group thing, which kinda proves its not actually good.
