Update: My cheap binoculars finally paid off

Tried for three nights straight to spot the Hercules Cluster with no luck. Last night, I gave it one more shot from my driveway in Springfield. After letting my eyes adjust for twenty minutes, I found it. It was just a faint smudge, but seeing it with my own eyes felt huge. Anyone else have a good target for basic 10x50 binoculars?

That's a great feeling, finally nailing a tough target. The Andromeda Galaxy is a good next step with those binos, just a faint oval patch. Good luck with the next one.

M31 is a huge target but needs really dark skies. I use averted vision with my 10x50s to see the core. That faint glow is worth the hunt.

About 2.3 million light years away, that light left Andromeda before humans even existed. It's wild to think about when you look up at that faint smudge. M31 was my first target too when I upgraded to 10x50s, took me three tries to actually find it.
