Unpopular opinion: my neighbor's $20 garage sale scope beat my fancy one on Jupiter
My neighbor Ray across the street in Boulder let me peek through his old 60mm refractor he grabbed at a garage sale for 20 bucks, and honestly the cloud bands on Jupiter looked sharper than in my 130mm reflector. He told me he just cleans the lens with distilled water and a microfiber cloth and never messes with collimation, which made me rethink all the fiddling I do. I spent 45 minutes fighting my collimation screws that night while he was already inside drinking coffee. Has anyone else had a cheap scope totally show up their main one, or am I just bad at tuning mine?
