That $20 green laser pointer I mocked is now my favorite tool
I spent months squinting through a finder scope trying to line up my Dobsonian, and my buddy kept pushing this cheap laser he got off Amazon. Finally borrowed his on a trip to Cherry Springs and wow, it made aiming at the Ring Nebula take like 10 seconds instead of 5 minutes of fiddling. Now I own one and I can't believe I waited so long, has anyone else been converted on a budget gadget like that?

Did I ever rag on my buddy for bringing a full golf bag of gadgets to our first star party? Yep, that was me. Then he handed me a $15 finder scope alternative for my phone and suddenly I was a superstar at navigating the sky. Now I'm the one evangelizing cheap gear, which is honestly a little embarrassing but totally worth the 10-second setup.
