Red dot finder or just bore sighting, which is actually worth the hassle?
I've been using a plain tube scope for 3 years and always thought red dot finders were a gimmick for people who can't align a simple sight. But last month I borrowed my neighbor's $40 red dot and got Saturn in view within 2 minutes, versus my usual 15 minute fight with the classic finder. Now I'm torn because the red dot eats batteries and feels fragile in my dewy backyard in Ohio, but it's honestly way faster when the kids are impatient. I'm leaning toward getting one, but part of me thinks I just got lucky that one night. Anyone else made the switch and stuck with it, or went back to the old way?

I was in the same boat, thought red dots were pure lazy nonsense, but after borrowing one for a week I totally get the "2 minutes versus 15 minute fight" thing and never looked back. The battery thing is annoying, but I just keep a spare in my pocket and it's been worth every second saved.
