My tripod leg snapped right as the ISS was passing over
I was setting up my binoculars in the driveway last Tuesday night when the plastic locking collar on my old tripod just cracked in half. Had to hold everything steady against the fence post for the whole six minute flyover, which was a real workout. Anyone have a solid, cheap tripod recommendation that can handle a bit of cold?

Ugh, cold plastic is the worst!

Noticed the same thing with cheap phone cases, they get brittle as soon as the temp drops.

Oh man, that's the worst timing! I've been there, trying to hold things still while your arms turn to jelly. That cold really does a number on cheap plastic parts. For a solid budget option, I've had good luck with the basic aluminum tripods from the big camera stores. They're not fancy, but the metal legs and simple screw locks hold up in the chill way better than plastic. Might be worth a look for your next ISS pass.
