Ugh, that's the worst! My own patio light is probably my biggest enemy when I try to look at stars. I get so annoyed, then remember I'm the one who forgot to turn it off.

Read an article about how those "dark sky" friendly lights actually help wildlife too, not just stargazers. @nina_hall, I bet a simple shield on that patio light would make a huge difference!

Yeah, I was reading about how light pollution is getting way worse even in small towns now. They said streetlights and those bright LED security lights are the main problem, but even porch lights add up when everyone has them on. There's this whole "dark sky" movement trying to get people to use shields on their lights so the beam points down at the ground, not up into the sky. Makes a huge difference for neighbors trying to see anything up there.
