Just realized my star hopping was off by one whole constellation for 3 weeks
I spent almost 3 weeks trying to find the Andromeda galaxy from my driveway in Reno and kept landing on nothing. Turned out I was using the wrong star as my jump off point from Cassiopeia, off by one whole star, and once a guy at a star party pointed it out I had it in 10 minutes with my $80 binoculars. Has anyone else had a hop go sideways for that long before you figured out where you went wrong?
