I was out near the old quarry in Millfield last month and the Milky Way was so clear I could see the dark rift without any filters.

I just used my dad's old 10x50 binoculars and a worn-out camping chair, and it made me wonder if anyone else has a favorite dark spot they'd drive an hour for.

Honestly, that's a long drive just to look at some stars.

Wait, I gotta push back on that a little bit. I've done that drive like four times now and honestly the gas money hurts but the view is so worth it. Call me crazy but seeing the milky way stretch out overhead is one of those things that just resets your brain, you know? lol

You know, calling it "just to look at some stars" kind of misses the point. It's more about the whole experience of being out there in the quiet dark. That feeling is absolutely worth the drive for a lot of us.
