Finally saw the Andromeda galaxy with my own eyes

Had to choose between staying up past midnight or giving up for the night. I waited it out with a blanket and my old 10x50 binoculars, and it was just a faint smudge but I'm so stoked lol. Anyone else have a go-to spot in their yard for a specific target?

Setting up in the yard is a total waste of time. All that light pollution and shaky binoculars just show a blurry nothing. You need a real telescope on a tripod to see any detail at all. A faint smudge isn't a win, it's proof the gear isn't good enough. Why bother with a blanket when you can save up for proper equipment? Doesn't a blurry view just make you want to quit?

My spot is the far corner of my patio, where the neighbor's security light is blocked by the fence. I use a cheap camping chair and let my eyes adjust for a good twenty minutes. The Orion Nebula is my usual check, just a fuzzy patch in the binoculars but it's always there.

Wait, you can see the Orion Nebula with just binoculars? I always thought you needed a real telescope for that.
