Bought a $40 'moon filter' that made everything look like a blue blob

Saw an ad for this special filter that promised to cut glare and show lunar details, but when I screwed it onto my old 70mm scope, the whole moon just turned into a fuzzy, bright blue circle with zero contrast. I basically paid forty bucks to make my view worse than it was with my own eyes, you know? Has anyone actually found a decent filter that works without costing a fortune?

It's the same with a lot of cheap gear, promises way more than it delivers. You end up paying for a fancy name on a piece of plastic. It makes you appreciate the simple stuff that actually works.

Wait, "fancy name on a piece of plastic" is so real. I bought something like that once and it broke in a week. You really do learn the hard way.
