Binoculars are better than telescopes for most backyard viewing
Everyone says get a telescope to start. I disagree. Grabbed a decent pair of 10x50 binos for $80 at a garage sale near Flagstaff last summer. Way easier to learn the sky with both eyes and a wide view. You can actually find stuff without fighting a tripod and a finder scope backwards. Has anyone else ditched their scope for binos most nights?

Have you tried using a bino harness instead of a tripod? Makes a huge difference for neck strain during longer sessions. I still pull out my scope for planets, but 95% of my nights are just binos and a lawn chair now.
