A streetlight just went up across from my yard and it's killing the Milky Way view

Three years ago I could see the whole band from my deck in Asheville, but last month the city installed a new sodium vapor lamp. Now I can barely make out Orion's belt. Anyone know a good portable light shield or a spot to complain to the city council?

Called the public works department and they put a shield on the light for me.

My buddy had the same problem with a new parking lot light.

I get why you'd be upset, but honestly I've come around on streetlights. The one by my place makes me feel a lot safer walking my dog at night. It's a trade-off for sure, but I'd take that over a better star view most days.
