A kid at the library asked me why we even look up anymore
I was picking out a star chart at the local branch last Tuesday, and this boy, maybe ten, asked his mom that. She just shrugged. It got me thinking about how we forget to just look. That night, I dragged my old camping chair out and just stared for an hour with no plan. Saw three satellites and remembered the names of two constellations I'd forgotten. What's the simplest thing you've seen lately that just made you stop and watch?

Oh man, that's so true. We're all just staring down at our hands now. I caught myself watching a squirrel try to open a walnut for like ten minutes yesterday, and it was honestly better than any show.

My phone says I spent 47 minutes last week just watching a YouTube video of a guy pressure washing a driveway. No talking, just the sound of the water. I felt weirdly calm after. I think we've all hit a point where the simple stuff is just more satisfying. I'm half expecting my next big hobby to be staring at a wall and calling it mindfulness.
