Tried deep litter method vs weekly coop cleaning and deep litter won by a mile

After two months of hauling soggy shavings every Saturday I switched to the deep litter method and my coop smells better, my compost pile is happier, and my hens stopped sneezing from all the dust.

Ever try adding a little garden lime to speed up the breakdown?

and honestly it makes me think about how most of us overcomplicate stuff in life before realizing the simple way works better. like with cleaning, we think weekly scrubbing means it's cleaner but really you're just stirring up dust and stressing the birds out. the deep litter method is basically letting nature do the work instead of fighting it. i see the same pattern with garden soil or even meal prepping where people try too hard and burn out instead of building a system that runs itself. lime helps too cause it balances ph so the breakdown happens faster without smelling bad, another case of adding one thing vs constantly hauling stuff out.

Lime works wonders down in the run too. I tossed a bag in after a wet week and the flies basically packed their bags.
