That cheap temperature alarm I ignored ended up saving my flock last winter
I had this $15 digital thermometer with a high/low alarm sitting in my Amazon cart for like 6 months. Kept thinking it was a waste because my coop is insulated pretty well (I live in upstate New York, so I know cold). But after losing a hen one morning to what I think was freezing temps, I finally bought one. Best decision ever. I set the low alarm for 10 degrees Fahrenheit, and last January at 3 AM it went off because the heater lamp had kicked the bucket. Ran out in my pajamas and boots, swapped the bulb, and the girls were fine. Has anyone else had a close call that a cheap gadget could have prevented?

Honestly feels like overkill for a slightly cold night.

A heat lamp can actually get way hotter than freezing so you might have set that alarm a bit too low.
