Shoutout to the lady at the feed store in Boise
She saw my cracked eggs and asked if I was adding oyster shell to the feed. I wasn't. Started mixing it in a month ago, and the shells are rock solid now. Anyone else have a simple fix that made a huge difference?

Honestly, I've never seen a difference with oyster shell. My girls free range a lot, so maybe they get enough grit from the yard. I tried it for a whole season and still ended up with the occasional weak shell. The biggest fix for me was just making sure their feed was really fresh, not sitting in a bin for months. Sometimes the old tricks are the best ones.

Oh man, that totally tracks. It feels like half the advice out there is just adding more stuff, when the real fix is often doing the basic thing better. Like, we'll buy a fancy gadget before we just clean the thing we already have. Fresh feed over extra supplements is a perfect example of that. We overcomplicate simple systems all the time.
