Rooster doesn't crow - took me 3 months to figure out why
I kept wondering why my new rooster wasn't making a sound. Turns out it was a hen with big comb and wattles. My neighbor in Des Moines finally pointed it out when she came over to buy eggs. Has anyone else misidentified a chicken's gender for that long?

Yeah I gotta disagree with the whole "it worked out better" thing. I mean, that hen isn't going to protect the flock or fertilize any eggs. It's just a hen with weird feathers. I'd be pretty annoyed if I spent 3 months thinking I had a rooster and ended up with nothing but a regular egg layer. Sometimes life just throws you a bad curveball and it's okay to be mad about it without trying to find some deeper meaning. Not everything happens for a reason, sometimes you just get a hen that looks like a rooster.

That's hilarious. Life has a way of playing tricks like that on us.

Feel yeah on that one. It's wild how life will set you up for something totally different than what you expected, then throw a curveball that actually works out better in the long run. I've had plenty of those moments where I was mad at the time but looking back, it was exactly what needed to happen. Hard to see it in the moment though, you know? Just gotta trust the process even when it feels like nonsense.
