My neighbor convinced me to stop buying medicated chick starter

I ran into him at the feed store on Tuesday and he asked what I was getting for my new chicks. When I said the usual medicated starter, he just shook his head and said, 'You're building weak birds by not letting their own systems develop.' He's been raising Rhode Island Reds for 15 years and never uses it. That stuck with me because I've always just followed the bag advice without question. Now I'm looking at my healthy flock and wondering if I've been solving a problem that doesn't exist in my clean coop. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed a difference in their birds' long-term health?

Yeah, the "just take bag advice" line got me too lol. I mean, sometimes you gotta hear people out if they've been through it before. But also, you gotta know when someone's talking out their butt about something they don't really get.
