I used to think chickens didn't need shade cloth in my Arizona yard

It got over 110 degrees last week, so I finally hung a cheap piece of white shade fabric over part of their run. I figured it wouldn't make much difference, but they spent the whole afternoon dust bathing and scratching right under it instead of hiding in the coop. I guess a little relief from direct sun matters more than I gave it credit for. What other cheap tricks do you all use to keep the flock cool?

That "little relief from direct sun" thing is a big deal. I see it all the time where a small, simple fix gets ignored because it doesn't seem like enough. But those small comforts are usually what makes a situation livable, for animals or people.

Totally agree. People get so caught up in big solutions they overlook the simple fixes right in front of them. A little bit of shade can change the whole day, no question.

Exactly what @brooke484 said about small comforts making things livable. People forget how much difference a tiny bit of shade or a breeze can make. It's the little things that add up to a decent day.
