I put golf balls in the nest boxes and my hens quit laying for 9 days
Read on some blog that fake eggs stop egg eating, so I tossed 3 golf balls in each box thinking it was the same thing. Hens wouldn't touch the boxes at all. Just stood there squawking at them. Took 9 days before anybody laid again, and I found 2 eggs cracked on the coop floor from hens dropping them while pacing around. Pulled the golf balls out and put the real ceramic fakes in and everything went back to normal in 2 days. Something about the weight or the sound when they peck it, I don't know. So which one of you is actually using golf balls and having it work, because I clearly did something wrong here.

Ugh that sounds so frustrating, nine days of no eggs would have me losing my mind. Sorry your hens staged a full on protest over some golf balls lol. Hope they're back to normal now with the ceramic ones.
