I gave my flock a bucket of plain yogurt for a week and their eggshells got way thicker.

I read somewhere that the calcium in yogurt is easier for them to absorb than just oyster shell, so I mixed a cup of plain, full-fat yogurt into their feed every morning for seven days straight, and now the shells don't crack when I accidentally bump them on the counter. Has anyone else seen a difference with dairy, or is this just a weird fluke with my six Rhode Island Reds?

Yogurt's worked for me too, but I'd watch the sugar content. Plain Greek yogurt with no added stuff is what I use, and I only give it twice a week mixed into their scratch. Too much dairy can mess with their gut flora from what I've seen. Try cutting it back to every other day and see if you still get those thick shells - mine did.

Seriously? It's just yogurt, not magic.
