I finally realized I was washing my chicken eggs the wrong way

After 2 years of scrubbing dirt off with a scrub brush, my neighbor ran over when she saw me doing it and said I was actually removing the protective bloom. She showed me to just dry wipe them with a rough cloth and now they last way longer on the counter - has anyone else been making this mistake without knowing?
