Finally figured out why my hens stopped laying, and it was the waterer all along
Took me almost a month of second guessing feed and lighting before I realized my 5 girls wouldn't touch the plastic waterer once algae started growing in it. Swapped to a galvanized one I clean twice a week and got 4 eggs the very next morning. Has anyone else had hens get picky about their water like that?
That line about the algae in the plastic waterer hit home for me. I always brushed off dirty water as no big deal since chickens drink from puddles and all that, but then mine got the same way and started laying again once I kept things clean. Guess I was wrong about them not caring.
