Bought a $60 bag of layer feed from Tractor Supply and half of it turned to moldy dust
I grabbed the big 50 lb bag of layer crumble at the Tractor Supply over on Highway 9 three weeks back and it seemed fine until I opened it last Saturday. The bottom third was clumped up and smelled sour, and I lost two hens within a week. Vet said it was likely mold in the feed, not a sickness they caught from the yard. Now I'm out $60 on feed plus a $140 vet bill, and I've got a 40 lb bag sitting in my garage I'm scared to use. Does anyone store their feed in a sealed bin with a moisture pack, or am I just supposed to gamble on a new bag every month?
