Update: got cliffed out near Mount Whitney after trusting a route I found on an old forum
Spent 4 hours backtracking down loose scree last Saturday because the GPS track I downloaded ended at a 40 foot drop nobody mentioned in the trip report. Now I always cross check any route against at least two recent trip reports plus a topo before I commit to it, no matter how good the beta sounds. Has anyone else had a route go sideways because the description left out a crux like that?
Been there and it sucks so bad. Downloaded tracks are the worst for that, they just stop and you're standing there like ok now what. That scree descent after already being spent is brutal on the knees too.
