The day I got lost in the White Mountains and it was the best thing ever
I was trying to follow the Appalachian Trail near Franconia Ridge and took a wrong turn, ending up on some unmarked game trails for about three hours. Instead of a crowded path, I found this quiet little pond with a perfect view of the cliffs, and I had the whole place to myself. Has anyone else had a wrong turn lead to a better spot than the main route?

Was that pond near the ridge because I got lost once and found a hidden waterfall?

Honestly getting lost is my main method of exploration. If I didn't have a terrible sense of direction I'd never see anything cool. That ridge is a maze, so your hidden waterfall story checks out. Mine was definitely more of a sad drip down some mossy stones, but I still tell people I found a waterfall. Makes me sound way more outdoorsy than I am.

Getting lost and finding a hidden spot sounds cool, but is it really that big of a deal? People find weird little places all the time. It was probably just a trickle off some rocks after a rain. Makes a good story though.
