Spent $150 on a water filter for the Sierra and it saved my butt at 11,000 feet
I picked up a pump filter for about $150 before a 6 day trip through the Sierra last month. My buddy said it was overkill and that tablets were enough, so I almost sent it back. Day 4 we hit a stretch near Mather Pass with no reliable water for miles and the only source was a silty little pool that tablets would have taken hours to treat. I was pumping clean water in like 3 minutes while he sat there waiting. He ended up asking to borrow it the rest of the trip. Now I'm wondering if I should carry a backup squeeze filter too, or is that just packing my fears? What do you all run on longer routes?
