My route plan for the Enchantments fell apart at 2am at the trailhead

I showed up at the Snow Lakes trailhead with my permit and found out a rock slide had closed the whole route a week earlier. Ended up doing 14 miles on the Icicle Creek trails instead with no map, just followed the creek. How do you all handle last minute route changes when the plan is dead on arrival?
