Just realized the trail to Lake Serene is way more dangerous than the guidebooks say.

Did the hike near Index, Washington last weekend. The final mile is basically a rock scramble now. Saw a huge section of the main path just gone, washed out from spring runoff. Almost slipped twice on loose gravel where the trail should be. Anyone else been up there recently and know if the forest service is planning repairs?

Seriously? It's a mountain trail, not a sidewalk. That area always gets rough after winter. A little rock scramble is pretty normal for that hike, makes it fun. People expect everything to be perfectly safe, but that's just not how the outdoors works. The forest service can't fix every single washed out spot instantly.

Oh come on, you're gonna tell me a little loose rock is a safety issue? That's half the fun of hiking in the spring, you never know if you're gonna find a trail or a slip n slide. People forget that trails are not Disneyland attractions, they're supposed to be a bit wild. If every washed out spot got fixed overnight, we'd just be walking on a flat sidewalk up the mountain, and that's boring. Let the forest service focus on the bigger hazards, not every single pebble that moved during a rain storm.
