I finally picked a route for my brother to try backpacking

He's nervous about the distance and carrying a pack. We're looking at the Lost Coast Trail in California, but some parts seem hard. Are there easier coastal trails with good campsites? How do you help a new person feel comfortable on the trail?

Why not try a shorter coastal hike, like Point Reyes, where we found bail-out options eased nerves?

Anxiety can really mess with planning outdoor trips, so having clear exit points makes all the difference. Knowing you can cut a hike short without being stuck is such a mental relief. It totally changes the experience from something stressful into something fun. That kind of planning lets people who get nervous actually enjoy getting out there.

It's a game changer for making nature feel welcoming instead of scary.
