I finally looked up the actual length of the Appalachian Trail in Georgia

I was planning a section hike and always thought it was about 80 miles through the state, but the official ATC site says it's 78.2 miles from Springer Mountain to the North Carolina line. That small detail really changes my daily mileage plan for a week-long trip. Has anyone else had to adjust their schedule over a couple of miles like that?

Always pad your daily miles for stuff like that.

Yeah I saw a video from a through-hiker who said the official mileage markers are always a little off once you factor in side trails and switchbacks. It's one of those things where you just have to build in some buffer time.
