Hit 500 trail miles in a single season and my feet nearly quit on me
I was hiking the Laurel Highlands Trail in Pennsylvania last October and hit the 500 mile mark for the year. Didn't even realize I was close until I pulled up my app at a shelter. That number just snuck up on me because I never track too close. My boots were falling apart, I had blisters on top of blisters, but I just kept moving. Honestly it felt more like a relief than a celebration when I saw it. Anybody else hit a random milestone that caught them off guard?

Nah 500 miles is just the warmup for real hiking.

...and here I was feeling proud of myself for hiking a whole 12 miles last weekend without falling into a creek. 500 miles sounds less like a milestone and more like a personal vendetta against your own feet. I swear, if I walked that far I'd need to hire a search party to find my arches. Blisters on top of blisters - that's not hiking, that's a medical condition you can charge rent for.
