Vent: analog gauges vs digital readouts in the hangar
I spent last Tuesday chasing a faulty oil pressure reading on a King Air that had me pulling my hair out. The digital display kept bouncing between 60 and 80 psi, so I swapped out the transmitter, checked the wiring, even replaced a grounding strap near the firewall. After 4 hours I finally broke out an old analog test gauge and saw steady pressure at 72 psi the whole time. Turns out the digital unit was sampling too fast and picking up electrical noise from an adjacent autopilot servo. I wired a simple capacitor filter into the signal line and the readout locked in smooth. Has anyone else had to rig a fix like that because a fancy digital unit just couldn't handle real aircraft noise?
