Ha, my cheap multimeter finally gave up the ghost yesterday. Guess I'll be joining the Fluke club soon enough.

Gave up the ghost" is such a perfect way to put it. But here's a weird thing nobody talks about with cheap meters: they actually lie to you in a super dangerous way. The cheap ones will show a stable voltage reading even when the circuit is barely holding together, while a Fluke will bounce around and show you all the noise and instability that's actually there. I had a $20 meter tell me a battery was fine at 12.6 volts, but my buddy's Fluke showed it was sagging to 9 volts the second any load hit it. That hidden instability is what actually kills equipment, not a dead short you can see coming. So really, you're not just buying reliability, you're buying truth.
