Showerthought: that intermittent transponder squawk took me 11 days to trace back to a chafed wire near the baggage door
Two summers ago I had a King Air in the shop with a transponder that would only drop out on climbout in the Florida heat, and I pulled the rack three times chasing pins before I found a chafed wire hiding behind the baggage door frame that only shorted when the fuselage flexed. Back in the old days with a 5 inch scope and a wiring diagram on paper I honestly think I would have found it faster, because now I trust the laptop readout too much and stop looking at the airplane itself. Anybody else notice the older diagnostic habits would have saved them on a job that dragged out way too long?
